83. Tritonal

Tritonal

2011's been a busy one for Texas duo Tritonal - Chad Cisneros and Dave Reed to their respective mums. So tuned-in are the pair that they claim to “finish each other's musical sentences”. ...

Breakthrough DJ/Producer of 2011: Norin & Rad!
What's the future of DJing? “Continued cross-pollination of all genres/sub-genres with a focus on live sets and production-driven festivals.”
Favourite app? Fruit Ninja on iPad2 - to work on our ninja skills, of course!”
Discovery of the year? “Ghosts, they're scaring people lately.”
Rediscovery of the year? Kyau & Albert 'Always A Fool'. Big fans of these two, amazing to see them celebrate their 15-year journey together.
Awkward Moment? “A sound-check in Korea for a live gig. We forgot to request that the sound engineer speak English. Whoops!”
Style or substance? “Substance, hands down! Styles come and go, but real soul is timeless.”
Pet Hate? Small DJ booths and clubs with only one monitor! There's two of us, and it's a nightmare mixing on a lopsided set-up.

The duo formed in 2007 whilst 1500 miles apart - Chad was in Austin, home of the annual SXSW music festival, whilst Dave was in Washington DC. But such was the musical chemistry between the two, Dave would eventually up sticks to go and join his new musical partner in Texas. It's been a fruitful collaboration - their schedules are jam-packed, and they've released stuff on labels like Armada, Anjunabeats and Alter Ego.
This year, the guys have largely been focusing on their debut long-player 'Piercing The Quiet', which featured a collaboration with fellow Austin resident Critina Soto. They also found time to launch their own label, Air Up There Recordings, which they say will deal exclusively in “emotional, melodic, forward-thinking dance music”. KRISTIAN DANDO
