What's the future of DJing? Dance parties on the moon

Pet Hate? People who don't walk on the conveyers in airports. They're designed to make you go faster, not so you can be lazy
“I don't think age really matters as long as you're writing big songs and playing great DJ sets,” says one of the youngest DJs in 2011's Top 100. tyDi (or Tyson Illingworth to give him his Sunday name) is a 24-year-old Australian sensation. This year alone he has taken his trance/prog/electro mutations to the USA, Europe, Australasia and “everywhere else that has an airport” - including warming up for Armin van Buuren at the last A State Of Trance party in Melbourne in front of a pant-wetting 20,000 people.

He also released his debut album, 'Shooting Stars', earlier this year. “I spent the last two years building what I wanted to be my perfect album and I'm ecstatic to see it finally out and being enjoyed,” he enthuses. “It's an 18-track collection of electronic music that covers a wide variety of genres, everything from house, dance, chill-out to more experimental-type stuff.”

On the road, the tyDi sound is much different. There he favours more repetitive, groovy, dancier sounds of the sort he also mixes up each week on his own radio show, Global Soundsystem. Syndicated across the FM airwaves to over 20 countries, the show reached its 100th edition just recently.
