Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike

“We're really blown away, this is the nicest surprise of the year!” says Dimitri Vegas of the news he and his brother, Like Mike, have blasted into the Top 100 for the first time in 2011....

Style: Smashin' beats.
Best known for: Being Belgium's biggest illegal export.
Tune of 2011: Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso 'Calling'.
Breakthrough DJ/Producer of 2011: Alesso.
What's the future of DJing? Evolving even more into 'concert-mode'.
Favourite app? Evolving even more into 'concert-mode'.
Discovery of the year? Fogo De Chao in Sao Paulo... Brazilian churrasco - we ate so much, we slept the whole flight back
Rediscovery of the year? Âme 'Rej'. We re-worked it especially for our set on the Tomorrowland main stage.
Awkward Moment? Being stopped in Tallahassee airport because they suspected we had a fake passport... took hours for them to verify!
Style or substance? You've got to have lots of substance to make it in this industry, and doing it with style is the only way to go!
Pet Hate? We're travelling all the time, so delayed or rescheduled flights we hate.
“We're really blown away, this is the nicest surprise of the year!” says Dimitri Vegas of the news he and his brother, Like Mike, have blasted into the Top 100 for the first time in 2011. This has been the Greece-born, Belgium-based duo's finest year to date, despite having respectable solo careers (Dimitri was a DJ, Mike was a hip-hop dude) before that.
“We played the main stage at Tomorrowland, as headliners, with a peak-time set and with 45, 000 people going crazy in front of us,” recalls Dimitri. “Even if we hadn't achieved anything else this year, we'd have been happy. That moment is what we do this for.”
But they did achieve some other things this year, big things…. It started with a remix of Axwell on the Swede's own label, and was then followed up with 'Madagascar', a single on the duo's own Smash The House label. Then Steve Angello's Size Records signed them up for a release. Their 'The Way We See The World' tune became the official Tomorrowland Anthem 2011 and topped Beatport's electro house chart in the process. It's no wonder that after that, myriad big name remix requests came flooding in from the likes of LMFAO and… Jennifer Lopez.
“Our musical goals are always the same,” Dimitri says. “We aim to take a well-known sample, just a bit of it, and mix it with something completely different… really mash it up!“ KRISTAN J CARYL
