Favourite app? Have you not seen the Paul Oakenfold app? Just kidding, I really love my Twitter app.
Discovery of the year? Google+, Google Music, Spotify, Turntable.FM and Facebook Music. My team has me obsessed with online socials and it is incredible the talent I am discovering from interacting with fans.
Rediscovery of the year? “CeCe Peniston 'Finally'. No explanation needed, just a classic, good for the soul.”
Awkward Moment?
Style or substance? “I would have to say style. It really is how you play something, not just hitting a button and letting it ride.”
Pet Hate? “Mean people and stuck-up DJs.”
Paul Oakenfold's story is woven so tightly into the fabric of what we know as 'dance music' that he surely needs no introduction. Yet he is still pushing boundaries. His residency in Las Vegas has helped the city win the tag of the 'Ibiza of the USA'.
“It is still growing and evolving,” Paul tells us, “and with festivals like Electric Daisy Carnival it's just scratched the surface and I'm really excited to see what's next.”
Oakenfold finds the current upheavals in the business side of music to be exhilarating, as he explains to DJmag.
“It is the Wild West at the moment and I kind of love the chaos! It forces people to become more creative with less.”
Plans for 2012 include his next artist album 'Pop Killer', accompanied by a full international tour. “We're crossing over without changing who we are,” he says of the current state of play. “That was the goal: be yourself and be accepted.”
