Malta is one of the smallest countries in the world. With a population of just over 400,000, we reckon it might have the biggest proportion of DJmag Top 100 DJs per capita than anywhere else in the world, thanks to the addition of Tenishia, the duo comprised of Joven Grech and Cyprian Cassar. The pair have been working together since meeting in a small bar in 2004, and it seems that their collective hard work is beginning to reap dividends.
The lads, both natives of the Mediterranean archipelago, are audibly thrilled when informed that they've infiltrated this year's Top 100 - a significant rise from last year's position of 207.
“We're so pleased that we're the first to ever make it from our little country,” says Joven.
Tenishia's brand of vocal-led trance bangers found a natural home on Armin Van Buurren's Armind label, and their tracks have been championed across the trance scene by all the big-hitters. Back home, their renown transcends the electronic music ghetto - they've scooped multiple gongs at the Malta Music Awards, kind of like the Maltese equivalent of The Brits. While they still live and record on their home island, their perspective is pretty global while their DJ schedule has taken them to the four corners of the earth. KRISTIAN DANDO
